I think the difference with AI is that old computer code was computational, and if the wrong answer was spit out, it was either a coding bug or an algorithm bug. So people rightfully expected the right answer from a computer. It really was the right answer almost always, which reinforced the belief that it was always right. AI on the other hand is anything but repeatable, or correct. Its a guess.

I think you are mixing up raspberry pi's(zeroes) and picos. The zeroes are stripper pi's with an O/S and the picos are the true O/S-less micro-controllers. I'll add though that memory is one of the biggest constraints. I got into using them a couple years ago. They are great little things are even less than a zero. The memory limit of 520k for the pico2 is the thing I run into most. The behavior of the net stack is also tricky for me. I've not done a tcp one yet, just udp. Even there you have to remember to poll, cause there ain't no O/S doing it. The pico makes that easy with the dual core's, one I usually set as the worker and one is the supervisor polling. Yes, mic's are really cheap and small these days. You mention a pi, and I wanted to be able to detect motion and sound. PIR for motion and a mic on the pi for sound. I don't do any recording, just a test for is the peak more than x times the average level. It did introduce me to the world of tiny cheap mics though. I'd been used to mic's for recording, and those are not cheap, at least not the good ones.

Scary thought. Many assembly lines use some very powerful robots. Usually just an arm that is fixed, and the area is usually caged. Expanding to AI, perhaps the robot is now mobile, and still in a cage to prevent accidents with humans.
