That's what you think.
Remember that 'secure' mail service in Zwitserland? Everything was encrypted with private keys which were under the control of the company, but they promised to never ever hand over the contents of your communications to any agency.
Turned out they just handed over the private keys to the NSA.

I used clusty.com now yippy.com for years.
It's really nice since it clusters results in categories on the left side.

I now use DuckDuckGo for text but Bing for images. ...) ... eh ... Bing, and I'm not proud of it.
I used to use Google for images until it stopped providing direct links to images. (I'm a image hoarder
I tried Yandex as a replacement for Google but it annoyed me with a Captcha every other time I tried to search images directly from the address bar.

Unlike Google, DDG allows you to page down ALL the results. A small but significant bonus when you are looking for something obscure.

Given the way the question was worded, I had to accept the convenience of google. However for anything sensitive I do NOT use the google. Never been able to find any major advantages of most of the others. However, I'm not going to say what other privacy-protection measures I employ since that would only attract targeting... I say certain things are my personal business, but the google has no such conception, not being a person of any sort.

Most people in the US are more worried about corporations handing over their data to other corporations (like Cambridge Analytica) as government requests thus far have been limited to dark-webers and bombing suspects. However, given Trump's willingness to openly abuse power in-order to punish political foes, this no longer seems wise.
